coLAB Arts gives thanks this year for its incredible community collaborations in New Brunswick, and its long time public art partnerships. Our resident mural artists have created exciting new installations around the city reflective of our communities, and we are excited to share them with you this week. Artist Leon Rainbow’s new mural, created in collaboration with New Brunswick Tomorrow and with funding from the Middlesex County Office of Arts and History, serves as an intergenerational conversation between French Street businesses past and present, honoring the legacy of those that were once important to the community and recognizing today’s cultural and commercial vibrancy. The message on top of the mural, “latido del Corazon de la ciudad” translates to “heartbeat of the city.” This message and the central image of the mural, the heart, speak to French Street’s enduring identity. Where other areas of the city grow to reflect New Brunswick’s larger institutions, French Street will always reflect New Brunswick’s people.
